Fences in Rowland Heights
We offer and build vinyl, steel glass, aluminum and wood fences. We install on top of walls, on slabs and in the ground.
Fences offer partitions between homes, and furnish either seclusion or openness contingent on what is required. For example, openness might be needed owing to either a pool or a nice view. Sprinklers or pool water and the moisture in the air in Southern California allows steel to rust and deteriorate, so for openness the best solution is aluminum or vinyl. Steel fencing is frequently identified as wrought iron, but that is misleading since wrought iron won’t rust, while mild steel definitely does. Aluminum fencing has a similar little profile as steel, whereas vinyl fences will have bigger members or profiles. Both aluminum and vinyl are excellent materials near swimming pools since they don’t decay or require painting even when exposed to lots of moisture. Dark colors are not available in vinyl.
For sturdy fences, vinyl or composites are preferred since once again they don’t rot or decay. White is common for vinyl, but we carry an exceptionally good looking tan vinyl with a texture making it distinct from the customary extruded material.
Another pool fencing alternative is a removable fence similar to the type produced by “Baby-loc”. This employs a net material to keep a child out and uses either aluminum or fiberglass posts that are put into fittings exactly placed in a concrete slab. Lastly, there is a special dog guard fence system that activates a shocking device on a dog collar. If the dog attempts to cross a hidden fence line fixed by a condealed wire the dog will be prevented by an electrical shock.
Glass fences and rails are a last alternative, and they have to be custom fit.
Patio Covers in Roland Heights
Pierce Construction & Repair provides and installs patio covers which are either water proof or for shade. For waterproof patio covers, we use wood, metal and Alumawood. In the case of shade, we employ wood, vinyl, or canvas. Framing with wood and shingles could be built, but it’s generally too expensive. Shade patios, when made of wood, necessitate painting which is a giant maintenance issue, so to minimize maintenance, Alumawood or vinyl shade covers are advisable.
Many of the patio covers put together for customers in southern California are built to be for shade and consist of lattice (2x2s) spaced equally on the top. If the shade 2x2s are painted wood, they will need repainting in just a couple of years. This is very complicated, time consuming and expensive. That’s why, Alumawood or vinyl is suggested for patio covers. On the other hand, since we get morning condensation and a minimal amout rain, solid water proof covers are also popular. With regard to a second story balcony, the same rule applies in that a water proof cover protects both the furniture below in addition to the actual structure itself. Structural protection means less maintenance and repairs.
Dry-rot is the chief component to wood damage in our area, not termites. Termites can be killed, but dry-rot is classified as a fungus and it continues to grow and ruin wood. It needs to be either cut out or removed. Dry-rot will strike if water is left to pool in an place that does not dry up rapidly. This can occur on top of flat planks, but particularly in areas involving wood joints. On substructures, we’d rather use chemically treated “Green” lumber which repels dry-rot. Sometimes we protect substructure support members with roofing type paper or vinyl to protect the supporting wood from moisture. We particularly like to keep the designs simple by minimizing the ornamental moldings or trim that make crevices and spaces for moisture to get into and attack the wood. Lots of homeowners permit debris to accumulate so that the debris essentially touches reinforcement wood for either patio covers or fences. When moisture is left to accumulate near a support base, it just about assures that the wood support will rot out.
Another possibility, canvas awnings are very attractive and functional for creating a shield from the elements. Sunesta carries various styles and various colored fabrics. Awnings also come as stationary, or with the option of opening and closing either by hand or with the aid of a motor.
